Founded by brothers J. Wesley Hanes and Pleasant Hanes as a family-owned tobacco business in the 1800’s, Hanes has since grown to become one of the most recognized names in women’s legwear. The two brothers sold their tobacco company in 1900 and went their separate ways, Pleasant to form a company to manufacture two-piece men’s underwear, and J. Wesley to produce men’s hosiery. J. Wesley soon ditched the men’s hosiery business and began to focus on the emerging women’s hosiery business, which you’ll probably agree turned out to be a pretty good idea. The two Hanes companies merged in 1965, believed to be the only merger ever between two companies with the same family name.
Hanes today offers legwear with superior style and comfort, including styles for plus-sizes and petites. These styles include Silk Reflections, made with spandex yarns that provide both a silky feel and a comfortable fit, Hanes Alive, made with fabrics designed to help reduce leg fatigue, and the sheer yet practical Hanes Too collection.
